INTERMEDIATE VINYASA
Playing your edge
Service Description
This class offers students an opportunity to explore new ways & old favourites to go deeper into their practice. The main requirement to feel at home in this class is the ability to practice alongside your ego - able to pause, adjust, rest, fire up, skip when your body indicates you need it. Everyone who comes to class have unique abilities, bodies and experience levels. While I assume you are familiar with foundational postures and transitions, I don’t expect you to know or love every single posture. It can be fiery and more strength demanding at times. It is an asana practice and you need to be keen to move. Through the moving meditation, we’ll move our energy into our bodies with the aim to give our minds rest. Remember, the most “advanced” practitioner is the one who approaches their practice with a beginner’s mind. Unsure if this is the right class for you? Come along and try - the fundamental principle in my teaching is to listen to YOUR body in order to honor it in your practice. Rest and use of props is encouraged in all my classes. Mats, blocks, bolsters and other props are available at the studio to support you in your practice. - Vinyasa yoga - Vinyasa is a flow based style of yoga where poses are linked together, synching breath with movement. The inhalations and exhalations guide the practitioner in and out of postures and transitions in between are as important as the time spent in a particular pose. There is no pre-determined sequence in Vinyasa, instead each class is unique. A class typically starts with a short meditation to arrive, followed by a warm-up sequence, sun salutations, standing postures and ends with seated or supine postures to cool down. Finally, Savasana (relaxation). The word Vinyasa is derived from Sanskrit nyasa (to place) and vi (in a special way) – reminding us that even though we flow from pose to pose, it is important to pay attention to alignment.
